Your Smile Is Worthwhile
I graduated from the University of Leeds with distinction and worked in general practice in Sheffield providing both NHS and private treatment. During this year I gained a broad range of experience from the management of advanced severe chronic periodontitis (gum disease) to private cosmetic treatment. I provided tooth whitening, root canal treatments, crowns, bridges and travelled to do dental treatment in nursing homes and in patients' own homes if they were unable to attend the clinic.
I have been awarded the Diploma of Member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. I have a passion for education and an interest in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. I regularly present lectures and provide clinical teaching for both medical and dental students and as the International Student Engagement Lead for dentinaltubules.com I provide regular articles, activities and revision aids for dental students, including last years' National Student Conference.
I have also worked full time in a major trauma hospital as part of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery team. This involved caring for acutely unwell patients who needed treatment for wounds and fractures to the head and neck, patients with head and neck cancer, benign tumours or syndromes requiring surgical input, as well as assisting in cleft lip and palate theatres. My time was spent between the wards, outpatient clinics, operating theatres and A+E. Although it was hard work, I loved the challenges this brought and the life changing (and saving!) treatments I could be part of. I also worked on an oral surgery clinic treating patients referred to the dental hospital for extractions and biopsies.
I have multiple articles published in scientific journals including research in the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on patient concerns following a diagnosis of head and neck cancer. This work is still ongoing and involved working with other members of the surgical team to learn more about how we could help patients with cancer understand their diagnosis, and ways to improve the patient experience.
I have won first place for my research presentation at a national dental conference and have ran lectures, conferences and workshops across the country. I have written articles on dentistry for multiple websites, newspapers and magazines and try to educate my patients about dentistry and their oral heath through my social media accounts. Please see my 'Press' page for more examples of this work.
I am the editor of the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Dentistry 7th edition, due for publication Spring 2020 and am currently authoring the restorative dentistry sections of maxfacts.com. I am passionate about education and love finding new ways to inspire and educate both young dentists, students and patients.
I have attended multiple lectures, workshops and courses on various areas of dentistry, with the greatest proportion of my time dedicated to restorative and cosmetic dentistry. I have completed further training at the Advanced Centre of Excellence where I did a course about occlusion, the way teeth meet and function. I have also currently completed a 6 month restorative dentistry course at the Wakefield Academy of Clinical Excellence to further my skills and have attended a day course on temporisation techniques with Basil Mizrahi. I have also done a 3 day course on managing toothwear. I am fully certified to provide Invisalign Go! clear aligners.
